Listen to Episode 26b

That’s All, Folks…

And so we wrap up the last episode with outtakes as always. Despite being subjected to an impenetrable episode of a syndicated TV series, the jokes were still there. I still can’t believe I’ve recorded a podcast with Adam Tod Brown - who is one of the first podcasters I listened to.

The Festival Show

Last week, I played an outdoor show in Chicago in the best summer weather the city can offer. The show was a blast. I’m glad I met up with such a talented group of musicians. Best yet, we all get along.

The entire show is on YouTube Here. I’m glad we can go out and play a bunch of covers like this. It may not be putting anything new out into the world, but it gives musicians common tunes to play over. And it gives the audience a constant stream of hooks to sink their attention into.

I think playing and singing bass on “Won’t Get Fooled Again” was one of my most difficult performances as a musician. Playing the bass is like playing a secret melody behind the song. To do that while singing a lead vocal means maintaining two lines at once with competing rhythms. It’s like the ambidexterity needed to play piano with both hands. I’ve only ever been able to sing and play bass by working out the compound rhythms between both parts at once. As in the piano metaphor, it helps that I played concert piano for years before picking up bass.
